Gordon’s Wine Bar
Gordon’s Wine Bar is a London institution. Both Richard and Oliver have been going there for years to enjoy its unique ambience and collection of the “finest wines available to humanity” to quote the great Withnail.
In season two we caught up with Amanda and Joao who told us more about this great bar’s history and what makes it such a special place in so many people’s hearts.
It stakes its rightful claim to be “London’s oldest wine bar” and to quote its website: “has quenched the thirst of wine lovers for over 130 years. Close to Covent Garden and London’s Theatreland, it is a hidden gem, just minutes away from Trafalgar Square between Charing Cross and Embankment stations. Gordon’s is renowned for its history with a vaulted candlelit cellar and old oak barrels filled with sherries and port.”
Tillington Winery
We spent very pleasant weekend at Tillingham winery in rural Sussex, talking to Ben Walgate about a different, ecologically sound and sustainable way of making delicious English wines.
We were made to feel very welcome and we given some lovely samples of wine and shown round the entire operation to learn how grapes become wine become a memory!
